GAUZE BONNET PRESS
GAUZE BONNET PRESS
Gauze Bonnet Press is a London based pamphlet press focusing on feminist and radical writing. We are currently open for pitches. First pamphlets arriving later this summer. Read on for more.
Our name comes from a political pamphlet written by Claude Tillier in the early 1840s called ‘Lettres Au Système Électoral, Sur La Réforme’, or in English, ‘Letters to the Electoral System, On Reform’. In the pamphlet he argued against giving French women the right to the vote. In this pamphlet he wrote ‘Sauf quelques grandes et rares exceptions, qui a jamais vu une idée politique se loger sous un bonnet de gaze?’, which translates roughly as, ‘Besides a few great and rare exceptions, who has ever seen a political idea lodged beneath a gauze bonnet’?
Well, I have. Though we may no longer wear bonnets of gauze, many of the greatest political writers and thinkers alive today are women. In bold retort to Monsieur Tillier, Gauze Bonnet seeks to publish work that is political, critical, polemical, and bold. Though we will not only publish women, we are woman-led and intersectional, radical, trans inclusive feminist thought is at the core of our mission. We welcome the radical, the transgressive, and the weird.
Our first publications will be arriving later this summer. They will be available to purchase online and in person at some London bookshops, which will be listed here. For updates on publications, please subscribe to our email list on Substack here:
I am currently looking for pitches of 4000-10000 words pamphlets for publication. Anyone is welcome to pitch, but I am especially keen to hear from women, in particular women underrepresented in the literary world and political thought- single mothers, refugees, lesbians, care leavers, disabled women, and those without a university education, to name a few. I am open to any type of politically engaged nonfiction writing, but I am not currently accepting submissions for fiction or poetry. For more information about pitching please look at the pitch guide document linked below. If you have any problems accessing this, please email me at kate.bugos@gmail.com.
